Parkinson's Disease / Treatment / Sinemet Patient Assistance Program

The Merck Canada Sinemet Patient Assistance Program (SPAP) allows people with a valid Sinemet or Sinemet CR prescription (new or refill) to obtain brand name Sinemet or Sinemet CR at no additional cost versus obtaining an available (and lower priced) generic version.

How does the program work?

When you present a refill or new prescription for Sinemet or Sinemet CR along with the SPAP card, and request no substitutions, the pharmacist will bill you or your drug plan for the cost of the available generic levodopa-carbidopa but fill the prescription with brand name Sinemet. Merck will pay the difference between the cost of the generic and brand name medication. It is important to ask for the "no substitutions" notation to be entered into your file at the pharmacy.

How do I get an SPAP card?

Request a card from your neurologist or contact Merck directly at 1 866 794 3574 or visit the Merck website.

What if my pharmacist or neurologist does not know about the program?
