As we mark Parkinson's Awareness Month this April, Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) reaffirms its commitment to empowering the 17,500 British Columbians living with Parkinson's disease. This month serves as an opportunity to amplify understanding and empathy towards the Parkinson's community, highlighting that the impact of this disease extends beyond its most recognized symptom: the tremor.

Parkinson's disease profoundly affects various facets of life, presenting challenges that go unnoticed by many. Our 2024 campaign endeavors to illuminate these struggles through personal narratives from those directly affected by Parkinson's, their families, and carepartners. By emphasizing the importance of living well with Parkinson's and fostering strong community support, we aim to inspire self-management, self-reliance, and self-advocacy.

Despite Parkinson's being the second most common neurological disorder after Alzheimer's, it often receives less attention and understanding from the public. Our initiative this April is intended to assist in bridging this gap by showcasing the diverse symptoms and the extensive impact Parkinson's has not only on individuals but also on their friends, family, and the healthcare system.
