Award-winning photographer Alan Jacques has been involved in photography since 1972. By the end of the 1970s he was a part-time freelance photographer and a photography instructor. In 1991, Alan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Rather than allowing it to overwhelm him, he has devised approaches and methods of working in photography that make his work unique. In 2001, he rediscovered his passion for street photography. He has been in group exhibitions both locally and internationally and his work has appeared in numerous publications, including Black & White magazine, for which he won a merit award in 2009. His photographs represent not only a unique approach to his subjects but tangible evidence that physical limitations can be creative opportunities.

This year, Jacques will follow up on the talks he gave as part of Capture Photography Festival 2016. In his words, "participating in this year’s festival was the logical follow-up to last year’s success. However, being the ‘yes’ person that I am, I tend to be in self-denial about my health. In reality, I have late stage Parkinson’s disease and my health is not in the same state as it was last year. I have come to realize that it is important to myself as an artist to continue showing and speaking about my work, but there are no guarantees."

The public is invited to join Alan Jacques for one of his artist talks, where highlights of his most recent work will be available to view.
