About the Role:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications, this position will assist in carrying out the necessary steps to advance Parkinson Society British Columbia’s presence, community connections, and reputation. This role will focus largely on supporting the Society’s programs, services, and annual campaigns. Under direction of the manager, the successful candidate will also be responsible for producing compelling articles/stories for publications, ensuring brand standards are upheld, and maintaining our internal communications calendar(s).

As Parkinson Society British Columbia has aggressive campaign and publication timelines, it is expected that the individual in this role take strong ownership of tasks while maintaining immaculate attention to detail. The ability to independently exercise sound judgement, while protecting the Society’s brand standards and interests is essential.

This position is currently remote, however, may transition to partially in-person as the pandemic eases. Limited in-person evening and weekend work is required for our major campaigns. The ideal candidate should reside in the Lower Mainland. Office hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.


  • Write content for various communications channels, both print and electronic, under the direction of the manager, including annual reports, newsletters, eblasts, and other letters/correspondence
  • Plan outlines for the Society’s major publications and social media, including but not limited to: Good News, GroupLink, and Viewpoints; development of timelines for project completion and maintenance of the communications calendar(s) are also expected as a part of the role
  • Develop questions and carry out interviews with members of the Parkinson’s community, researchers, and other stakeholders for use in promotional initiatives and publications
  • Assist with planning and executing the Society’s major campaigns and fundraisers including Parkinson’s Awareness Month and Parkinson SuperWalk; responsibilities involve booking of advertising as directed, ensuring agreements with all partners are adhered to without conflicts of interest, writing speeches, and ideally developing marketing materials in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Review of all communications materials prior to final approval from the manager
  • Develop and maintain list of organizational brand guidelines, including “rules” for writing
  • Updating the Society website as directed


  • 3-5 years of communications experience, ideally within a non-profit organization
  • Exceptional written communications skills, including a keen attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex concepts into easily digestible messages
  • Significant experience with copyediting for professional application, and the ability to easily adapt the “voice” for a particular audience or publication
  • Preferred intermediate knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, and a strong understanding of effective communication design
  • Experience working with materials developed for professional printing and/or digital distribution
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO, HTML, and basic UX principles
  • Working knowledge of iMacs and iOS and cloud-based software
  • As this position is remote, a quiet home-based working space is required for the position. A computer will be provided, however, high speed internet access is the responsibility of the staff member.

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 commensurate with experience. A benefits package is available after successful completion of a three month probation period.
