About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications, the Special Events & Fundraising Officer will lead efforts in the execution of the Society’s largest yearly fundraising event, Parkinson SuperWalk. Parkinson SuperWalk is a multi-location event that takes place in over 20 communities across the province. The successful candidate will have experience planning, monitoring, and executing large scale events. He/she/they will also be responsible for prospecting and stewardship of Parkinson Society BC’s donors, including assisting in the development of our seasonal fundraising appeals.

As Parkinson Society British Columbia’s operations are reliant on donations from individuals and corporations, the Special Events & Fundraising Officer must remain aware and accountable for meeting, or exceeding, fundraising goals. The successful candidate will require the ability to independently exercise sound judgement and be comfortable with delivering superior quality results on aggressive timelines. Immaculate attention to detail is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications, as well as national partners, to ensure that revenue and expense budgets are met for Parkinson SuperWalk
  • Oversees logistical planning of Parkinson SuperWalk, while monitoring standards and guidelines to maintain event integrity
  • Collaborates with the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications to develop and implement strategies for annual growth of Parkinson SuperWalk by focusing on creating a positive experience for high-value participants and sponsors
  • Actively engages with event coordinators and committees as an event expert and shares best practices amongst walk locations
  • Acquires sponsorships: researches, recruits, and negotiates sponsors for Parkinson SuperWalk
  • Collaborates with internal staff on communications, marketing, data entry, tax receipting, stewardship, sponsorship fulfillment, and optimization of our peer-to-peer giving platform
  • Develops and maintains a good working knowledge of the organization’s programs and funding priorities, while identifying areas of opportunity
  • Works with internal staff to develop and provide resources and tools for event coordinators & committees
  • Responsible for maintaining financial records and preparing summary reports related to Parkinson SuperWalk
  • Promotes a culture that is donor-centric, where requests from internal and external stakeholders are responded to with a high degree of urgency, professionalism and friendliness
  • Develops seasonal appeal campaigns while tracking, measuring, and revising approaches to deliver optimal results and meet fundraising targets

Qualifications and Competencies:

This position requires strong project and time management, with superb interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will act as the lead for the Society’s largest yearly fundraiser, Parkinson SuperWalk. He/she/they must possess superb interpersonal skills, while consistently demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, and sensitivity.

Additional Requirements:

  • A university/college degree in fundraising or event planning, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required
  • 5+ years of event planning experience, including portfolio management for prospects, solicitors, and major donors
  • Solid understanding of the non-profit sector; experience with health-related charities will be considered an asset
  • Exemplary attention to detail with demonstrated capacity to deliver work and complete projects independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, in addition to polished presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing or competing priorities
  • Ability to multi-task and perform well in a deadline-driven and detail-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and innovation in problem solving
  • Deep understanding of donor audiences and the methods by which donors can retained to increase their lifetime value (i.e. retention and stewardship)
  • Strong and demonstrated understanding of utilizing Raiser’s Edge, a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, or other CRM software
  • Expert knowledge of CRA charity guidelines
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Class 5 driver’s license required; access to a vehicle preferred
  • This role will require travel during August and September for the support of events across British Columbia, including some evening and weekend work
