About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications, Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) is seeking a Special Events & Fundraising Officer who will lead efforts in the execution of the Society’s largest yearly fundraising event, Parkinson SuperWalk, and support third-party fundraisers. The successful candidate will also be responsible for stewardship of Parkinson Society BC’s donors, participants, and volunteers within the fundraising events portfolio.

As Parkinson Society British Columbia’s operations are reliant on donations from individuals and corporations, the Special Events & Fundraising Officer must remain aware and accountable for meeting, or exceeding, fundraising goals. The successful candidate will require the ability to independently exercise sound judgment and be comfortable with delivering superior quality results on aggressive timelines. Immaculate attention to detail is essential.

This position will be full time at 35 hours per week, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Staff are currently working remotely, however, this is a hybrid position and in-office work will be required. The successful candidate must also be available to travel to various event sites on Saturday, September 10 & Sunday, September 11 to support Parkinson SuperWalk event(s).

The Society is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are supported by donations from individuals, members, corporations, foundations, and the dedicated efforts of volunteers.

Our office is conveniently located downtown Vancouver at 600 – 890 West Pender Street.

Responsibilities of the Special Events & Fundraising Officer:

  • Works closely with the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications, as well as national partners, to ensure that revenue and expense budgets are met for Parkinson SuperWalk
  • Oversees logistical planning of Parkinson SuperWalk, while monitoring standards and guidelines to maintain event integrity
  • Collaborates with the Senior Manager, Resource Development & Communications to develop and implement strategies for annual growth of Parkinson SuperWalk by focusing on creating a positive experience for high-value participants and sponsors
  • Actively engages with event coordinators and committees as an event expert and shares best practices between walk locations
  • Collaborates with internal staff on communications, marketing, data entry, tax receipting, stewardship, sponsorship fulfillment, and optimization of our peer-to-peer giving platform
  • Develops and maintains a good working knowledge of the organization’s programs and funding priorities, while identifying areas of opportunity
  • Works with internal staff to develop and provide resources and tools for event coordinators & committees
  • Responsible for maintaining financial records and preparing summary reports related to Parkinson SuperWalk
  • Promote a culture that is donor-centric, where requests from internal and external stakeholders are responded to with a high degree of urgency, professionalism and friendliness
  • Takes the lead on supporting and seeking independent fundraising events and coordinating with event organizers
  • Attends independent fundraising events to assist with on-site tasks, as needed

Qualifications and Competencies:

This position requires strong project and time management, with superb interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will act as the lead for the Society’s largest yearly fundraiser, Parkinson SuperWalk and independent fundraising events. He/she/they must possess superb interpersonal skills, while consistently demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, and sensitivity.

Additional requirements:

  • A university degree in fundraising or event planning, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required
  • 5+ years of event fundraising experience, including portfolio management for prospects, solicitors, and major donors
  • Solid understanding of the non-profit sector; experience with health-related charities will be considered an asset
  • Exemplary attention to detail with demonstrated capacity to deliver work and complete projects independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, in addition to polished presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing or competing priorities
  • Ability to multi-task and perform well in a deadline-driven and detail-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and innovation in problem solving
  • Deep understanding of donor audiences and the methods by which donors can retained to increase their lifetime value (i.e. retention and stewardship)
  • Strong and demonstrated understanding of utilizing Raiser’s Edge, a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, or other CRM software
  • Knowledge of CRA charity guidelines
  • High level of experience in utilizing computer software applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat (using PDFs) and PowerPoint
  • Class 5 driver’s license required; access to a vehicle required
  • This role will require travel during August and September for the support of events across British Columbia, including some evening and weekend work
  • As a condition of hire all candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per annum commensurate with education and experience.
