We're seeking a new Board member for the role of Treasurer to join us in our mission of empowering the Parkinson’s community in BC.  The right candidate will be well versed in understanding financial statements and best practices.

Duties – The Treasurer is a Director on the Board and also a member of the Executive Committee of the Board. The Treasurer chairs the Finance Committee.

The Finance committee reviews the Society’s monthly financial statements as well as providing advice and recommendations to the Board on any matters pertaining to finance. The Finance Committee also reviews the annual proposed budget and may make recommendations to staff for revisions, prior to recommending to the Board. The Finance Committee also acts as the Audit Committee for the Board and reviews the annual audit prepared by an external audit firm. They may make recommendations for revision prior to recommending to the Board.

The Treasurer presents reviewed financial statements to society members at the Annual General Meeting.

The Treasurer has co-signing authority on Society expenses and needs to be available in this capacity from time to time. The Treasurer also meets with the CEO from time to time to discuss Society expenses and revenue.

Requirements – Experience working with charities and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).

Commitment – Board meetings are generally 5 times per year with Finance committee meetings usually a week prior to each Board meeting.

The Treasurer can expect to spend one to two hours reading and reviewing reports in advance of each meeting. All board members are encouraged to participate in the annual fall SuperWalk and other fundraising activities.
