Topics covered at this conference include:

  • Understanding Disease Progression and Biomarkers in Parkinson’s | Dr. Jonathan Stoessl, Movement Disorder Specialist
Dr. Jonathan Stoessl will explore cutting-edge research on Parkinson's disease progression and the role of biomarkers. Discover how these markers can predict disease onset, track progression, and shape personalized treatment strategies. He'll also share insights on future directions and what's on the horizon in Parkinson's research.
  • Virtual Reality and Innovative Approaches to Cognitive and Mood Disorders | Dr. Trisha Chakrabarty, Consultant Psychiatrist
Parkinson’s disease is often recognized for its motor symptoms, but non-motor symptoms like cognitive decline, anxiety, and depression can also profoundly impact quality of life. These cognitive and mood challenges can arise at any stage, with some individuals progressing to dementia in advanced stages. Dr. Trisha Chakrabarty will explore innovative therapeutic approaches beyond traditional treatments, including cognitive remediation and the use of technology-based tools like Virtual Reality, mind games, and other digital applications to help manage and improve these symptoms.
  • The Impact of Deep Brain Stimulation on Non-Motor Symptoms | Dr. Stefan Lang, Functional Neurosurgeon
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is well-known for its effectiveness in treating motor symptoms like tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia in Parkinson's disease. But did you know that DBS can also significantly improve non-motor symptoms, which can be just as, if not more, debilitating? Dr. Lang will explore how DBS impacts mood disorders, cognitive dysfunction, and sleep disturbances, shedding light on the broader benefits of this advanced treatment beyond just motor relief.

The conference will also include two movement breaks.
