Criteria: Having some challenges with balance and or freezing.  Able to mobilise independently 150 feet with or without walking aid (walker, cane etc.)  Able to tolerate one hour of activity.  Initial assessment required for new participants: $90.
Class Description: Class includes moderate aerobic warm up on recumbent bicycle. Chair and standing exercises focusing on improving flexibility, posture, big whole body movements. Short circuit with resistance and agility exercises.

Class Description: 50 years and up. For those living with Parkinson's disease or with balance and mobility challenges, PWR!Moves will help you recover loss of function and strength. PWR!Moves are research-based exercises designed to use large amplitude movements with a concentrated effort, to complete muscle activation for daily activities.

Class Description: Parkinson's disease affects movement, however regular exercise can provide significant benefits to those with PD. We will work on improving posture, greater strength and balance increased ability to walk, voice projection and decreased chance of falling.

Criteria: Participants must be or become a member of the Fernie Senior Citizens Center ($15.00 for the year). This is for insurance purposes.
Class Description: Participants are encouraged to come with a spouse, friend, family member or carepartner who will participate in the class. This accompanying person does not need to pay the drop-in fee or the membership fee. In Move to Music classes, participants are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative.

Class Description: PWR!Moves is a Parkinson's disease-specific exercise program. This group class focuses on four foundational skills that help to counteract the symptoms of of the disease. These Basic 4 PWR!Moves are always performed with HIGH EFFORT for bigger and faster movements while directing your attention on "how it feels" to use your full movement potential. You will first learn the foundational BASIC 4 elements in multiple positions and then you will be challenged physically, cognitively, and attentionally. The emphasis is on learning what "optimal function" feels like so that you learn to move bigger and faster in your everyday life! Make FUNction Exercise everyday so that "you use it and don't lose it!"

Class Description: These PD specific classes began as part of a 9 month study project supported by a VCH Research Institute Innovation and Translational Research Award, funded by the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation and VCHRI and are continuing as a North Vancouver community program as the study had intended. The exercise principles include high intensity (size and speed) movements, task repetition, rhythmical rocking, cognitive strategies, and making use of internal and external cues.  Structured exercise groups also include social interaction that is known to improve depression and apathy.

Class Description: Classes are based on non-contact boxing based training. Workouts may include, but are not limited to, shadow boxing, focus mitts, heavy bags, jump rope, stationary biking, core work, calisthenics and circuit weight training. Cognitive, breathing and voice exercises are also included.
