Initial Assessment Info: Rock Steady Boxing classes are divided into various levels based upon each person's unique Parkinson's symptoms and overall level of fitness. We require all potential boxers to complete a 90 minute assessment with our Coach to determine the class placement that would be of greatest benefit to them. Assessments must be done at IMPACT Parkinson's in New Westminster #103-450 E. Class Description: Exercise is an important part of healthy living.  This is especially true for people with Parkinson’s disease since exercise helps maintain balance, strength, mobility and activities of daily living.  This program addresses all the components to help people with Parkinson’s stay active and healthy with a Parkinson’s exercise specialist.

Class Description: Functional fitness based movements in circuit type of class. Including warm up and cool down exercises. Exercises focus on large amplitude movements including PWR! Moves, balance, strength training, coordination and stretching.

Criteria: Having some challenges with balance and or freezing.  Able to mobilize independently 150 feet with or without walking aid (walker, cane etc.)  Able to tolerate one hour of activity.  Initial assessment required for new participants: $90.
Class Description: Chair and standing exercises focusing on improving flexibility, posture, big whole body movements. Short circuit with resistance and agility exercises.

Class Description: A non-contact boxing class for seniors living with Parkinson. Exercises are modified to meet individual needs.  Focus on movement, improving balance, strengthening and exercises to challenge the brain and body.

Criteria: Men and women of all ages and all stages of Parkinson's disease are welcome to participate. Exercises will be modified to individual needs and abilities. No boxing experience is required. $50 pre-assessment is required
Class Description: Classes are based on non-contact boxing based training. Workouts may include, but are not limited to, shadow boxing, focus mitts, heavy bags, jump rope, stationary biking, core work, calisthenics and circuit weight training. Cognitive, breathing and voice exercises are also included.

Kelowna

PWR!Moves is a Parkinson's disease-specific exercise program. This group class focuses on four foundational skills that help to counteract the symptoms of of the disease. These Basic 4 PWR!Moves are always performed with HIGH EFFORT for bigger and faster movements while directing your attention on "how it feels" to use your full movement potential. You will first learn the foundational BASIC 4 elements in multiple positions and then you will be challenged physically, cognitively, and attentionally. The emphasis is on learning what "optimal function" feels like so that you learn to move bigger and faster in your everyday life! Make FUNction Exercise everyday so that "you use it and don't lose it!"

Class Description:  Classes will consist of boxing, circut training and exercises that target movement patterns needed throughout daily life that are affected by Parkinson's Disease. This class is upbeat and a moderate intensity to tap in to the dopamine and get the heart pumping. Exercises will target balance, coordination, flexibility, strength, dexterity and so much more all designed by a Physiotherapist trained in Exercise as a primary treatment for Parkinson's by NeuroFit.

This is a fun exercise program for individuals with Parkinson's disease. Class Description: T'ai Chi integrates balance and coordination with body awareness and mental attention training. Studies have shown that individuals with Parkinson's who participate in these exercises experience improvements in Parkinson’s related motor symptoms, balance and mobility, as well as a reduced number of falls. Specifically, Yang Style Short Form T'ai Chi will be offered during our seasons. This involves two-person skills where students learn to preserve their balance and mobility even when it is challenged by another person.

 Diane Kehoe has practiced T’ai Chi every day since she began to study in the 1980s and has taught Yang Style T’ai Chi to hundreds of students privately and publicly. She has judged T’ai Chi Chuan in Canada and in the United States for close to 30 years. She is Co-Founder of Riverbank T'ai Chi (1989) in Delta, BC.

Group speech therapy sessions led by a Speech Language Pathologist. Learn about communication and swallowing concerns common in Parkinson disease. Yoga for Parkinson’s offers various movements focusing on flexibility and balance, plus relaxation and meditation, as ways of managing symptoms. Coming from a trauma-sensitive perspective, classes will be about choice, paying attention to what each body, mind, and spirit most need and that this practice will be unique to each individual.

Class Description: Classes involve repetitive training of four foundational skills that underlie everyday function and that become impaired in Parkinson's. You will be challenged both physically and cognitively so that you use it and improve it. Classes will include PWR! Moves, cardio intervals, walking drills, strength, flexibility, proprioception and brain games.

Fee: Initial assessment required if new to class: $160 (includes PD Warrior manual); $150 for 6 classes; FREE taster session available to new clients. 
Criteria: All ages and abilities welcome - exercises will be modified appropriately. Must be able to follow instructions, be able to walk independently with or without a walking aid. 
Class Description: PD Warrior is an internationally recognized program designed specifically for people with Parkinson's. It is an inclusive, supportive community, based around encouraging participants to #livebrave and not let their Parkinson's define their lives. The PD Warrior exercise program utilizes high amplitude and high energy movements in a circuit class, led by physiotherapists, to drive neuroplastic changes in the brain.
