The Irish Blessing - Front - Rescan

Avis Muir’s husband, Douglas, passed away following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease in September, 2017. Douglas, a Nanaimo resident, was a member of the Yellowpoint Singers Choir for many years and his favourite piece was The Irish Blessing. To honour Doug's memory, a dear friend from the choir named David Carter used calligraphy to pen a rendition of The Irish Blessing as a gift for Avis.

David then suggested that the calligraphy be printed and sold as cards, with proceeds going to Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC). Avis had personally benefitted from the caregiver education and support provided by the Society, and indicated she would like the funds to continue to support people with Parkinson's and their loved ones.

The cards were sold to friends and family, support groups and the choir, and raised $1,100. PSBC is grateful to Avis, David and the community on Vancouver Island for their support. We hope that the work we do will continue to honour Doug's memory.
